I've been in marketing for almost ten years now. I started out freelancing, working with small businesses and solo founders, and a good chunk of that early work was already in games. That led me to a mobile games studio in Helsinki, where I ran in-app and email campaigns, and the games side of things has had a firm grip on me ever since. Most of the years after that went into B2B tech, building campaigns, automation setups and eventually the teams that run them. Right now I lead one.
I tinker on my own game ideas too. At my current pace, one of them might see a release in 15 years or so, and honestly, I'm a pretty mediocre dev :D But it means I know how much of yourself goes into a game, long before anyone else ever gets to see it.
Steelbearded Games exists because I want great indie games to keep coming out and to keep growing once they do. Most devs I talk to aren't short on effort. They're short on direction, with their few marketing hours going into things that don't move the needle while the one thing that would sits untouched.
I also have a slight obsession with how platforms actually work under the hood. Back in my freelance days that meant SEO and figuring out what Google really rewards. These days it's Steam, and it's kinda the same puzzle with better art :D Tags, release timing, what the store picks up and what it quietly ignores, that's the stuff I dig into for fun.
That's where I come in. I look at your game the way a stranger and the Steam store see it, find the ONE thing that's holding everything else back, and tell you plainly what to stop doing. I can't promise sales, nobody honestly can. What you get is a clear direction and the reasoning behind it, so your time goes where it counts.
Based in Germany, working with devs worldwide. You'll usually find me on Bluesky, on Reddit, or deep in someone's Steam tags. :)
